Justice is Major Arcana number 11, who judges The Fool on their progress so far. It creates and enforces the rules of the Tarot deck, and in some decks it is given the number 8, another highly symmetrical number. The Tarot interpretation of Justice usually involves a pending decision, legal disputes, a question of morality and ethics, or someone getting what they deserve.
Justice Card Meaning
Justice is about carefully balancing things, weighing one thing against another, or laying out a complex argument grounded in reason and logic. This card is also about cutting through to the end of this process in order to determine the truth. Sometimes this results in someone receiving a penance or punishment, which can also be represented by this card.
Symbolism in Justice
Justice is symbolically linked to courtrooms, judges, detectives, lawyers, and spyglasses. Justice shares the shrewd but fair eye of Libra in the context of Astrology, and has the energy of a just ruler just like the birthstone Sapphire. In numerology, Justice is linked with the numbers one and eleven, and occasionally the number eight.
Justice Reversed Meaning
Justice reversed means revenge sought for the wrong reasons, justice delayed or denied, a procedure held up by a technicality, or a harsh judgement handed down upon you. It can also represent someone who is in a position to make a decision for someone else, but is unfair or lacks full knowledge of the situation.
