Understanding the Tarot Deck
Learning to read tarot cards means more than memorizing meanings—it’s about developing an intuitive relationship with the cards and their symbols. The tarot deck is traditionally divided into the Major Arcana, which represents life’s spiritual themes and transformative moments, and the Minor Arcana, which explores daily experiences, challenges, and emotional nuances.
On Fool’s Key, each tarot card is embedded with astrological associations, numerological patterns, elemental links, and birthstone correspondences. This allows you to interpret your readings with a layered perspective—perfect for beginners learning how to read tarot cards, or experienced readers looking for fresh insight.
You can use the Tarot to answer specific questions, reflect on decisions, or explore your personal growth. From single-card pulls to complex tarot spreads, Fool’s Key provides a unique, living system for interpreting the cards and discovering what resonates most in the moment.
Structure of the Tarot Deck
The Minor Arcana are a lot like a normal deck of playing cards, with four suits and each suit containing numbered cards one (or ace) through ten, as well as some royalty cards. The main difference is that the Tarot deck has four ranks for the royalty (page, knight, queen, and king), while playing cards have only three (jack, queen, and king). The royalty of the Tarot are known as the Court Cards; examples include the Queen of Wands and the Page of Pentacles. Examples of non-court Minor Arcana are the Five of Swords, the Ten of Cups, and the Ace of Wands.
The Major Arcana each have their own name, such as The Magician and Temperance. They also have a number, from 0 to 21, and together form a sequence. However, Major Arcana number 0, the Fool, is often taken out of the order, and is instead viewed as going a journey through the other arcana from 1 to 21.
